Talks

In addition to the regular screenings and discussions, Guth Gafa Int’l Doc Film Festival, in association with Bord Scannán Na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board and supported by other industry partners, is hosting a special programme for film professionals and students with panels, sessions and masterclasses.

Ulster Scots on Film

Friday 11th June 3pm – Parish Hall Cinema

Film screening and debate

Ulster Scots on Film, is a celebration of Ulster Scots film and television programming and an opportunity to bring together the general public who have an interest in Ulster Scots language and attendant culture, with professionals from the industry who work in, or have an interest in, Ulster Scots programmes.

The event will be structured around the screening of two films, Lionel Mill's Us Boys (co-funded by RTÉ, Northern Ireland Film & Television Commission and The Irish Film Board), and Deaglán Ó Mochain’s The Hamely Tongue: Cultúr Ceilte (funded by TG4, BAI, Foras na Gaeilge and The Ulster Scots Agency).  The film screenings will be followed by a discussion about the films, and about Ulster Scots culture and language in film and television in general.

Your documentary film has launched at a Festival, toured the "circuit" for a while - and then what? Getting films into traditional distribution channels like television broadcast or even cinema exhibition is becoming harder. Therefore, many filmmakers and producers are looking for alternative ways to lengthen the life of a documentary and get it seen by as many people as possible. Film festivals are joining these initiatives as well by offering outreach programmes that can help filmmakers to extend their audiences beyond the festival. But it doesn't stop here: festivals have become real innovators in the areas of project development and education as well.

Gabriel Noble (P-Star Rising), Chloe Ruthven, (Mario and Nini) and Cúán Mac Conghail (On the Block – Tory Island) are the directors in attendance.
