Prepare To Be Entertained at Guth Gafa 2010
Free to all those who have attended Guth Gafa films or events, it is a place to chill and chat about the days screenings, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere where attendees mingle and meet with directors, producers and festival guests. You can sit back and soak up the music or get down on the dancefloor to the funky rhythms from some of Ireland's the finest live acts.
Following the festival opening on Friday night the festival club will reveberate to the sounds of Túcan, an instrumental acoustic guitar based group hailing from Sligo. Túcan's started out as a guitar duo, and their spell-binding performances has won the praise of critics, admiration of audiences, and respect of musicians both nationally and internationally. They have recently added extra backing in the form of a drummer and bassist to form a quartet. This new line up has dramatically spiced things up, adding serious verve and power to the overall sound, adding an extra dimension to one of the most exciting bands on the live scene in Ireland. They are guaranteed to set off musical fireworks that will leave Gortahork gasping for breath.
Saturday night will begin with Kloe Humm a talented Donegal based musician and songwriter who has toured to festivals and venues across Europe. She will be strumming up a storm on guitar and groovy vocals as she delivers some super original material and distinctive covers. Later the festival club will experience some seriously alternative material from Sounds of System Breakdown, an electro post-punk ensemble from Dublin. They have a refined and clever combination of technical wizardry and more traditional indie guitar elements. There'll be plenty of opportunity to boogie as their impressive set comprises thoroughly catchy tunes and danceable beats. Sounds of System Breakdown was originally a one-man band exploring the possibilities of live performance of electronic music, stepping out from behind the laptop and really engaging with the audience. The group has since swelled to a three piece with guitars, live drums, and assortment of other instruments.
